Filter tasks in depth

Combine status, priority, type, trail, person and date to isolate exactly the tasks you care about.

The quick filters in the toolbar answer simple questions: who, what type. Advanced filters are for when the question combines several — "critical tasks still open on La Coulée, created this month".

The filter applies everywhere at once: the list, the kanban and the map all show the same subset. The counter at the top of each column reflects the filter, not just what happens to be loaded on screen.

Where: the Advanced filter button in the Tasks toolbar. On mobile, the filter icon on the Terrain view.

On the web

The Advanced filter button in the toolbar opens a panel on the right.

The filter panel, with three criteria active.

  1. 1Each section collapses. The badge shows how many criteria are active inside it.
  2. 2The counter at the top totals every active criterion, across all sections.
  3. 3Closed sections are not inactive — open them to see what they hold.
  4. 4Nothing moves until you click "Apply filters".

This is what surprises people most: your choices are not applied as you go. You tick what you want, then you apply. If you close the panel with unapplied choices, Sentinel asks rather than losing them.

The three buttons at the bottom do different things:

ButtonEffect
ResetClears every criterion in the panel
CancelCloses without changing the filters currently in effect
Apply filtersApplies your selection. Disabled until something changes

The eight dimensions

Status and Priority show as pills: one tap turns a value on, another turns it off. Values stack — "Ready" plus "In Progress" gives you both.

Type is a grid of your place's task types, including the ones you created yourself.

Date first asks which date: creation or completion. You then pick a range, with shortcuts (today, yesterday, this week…).

Trail, Creator, Assigned to and Project are searchable lists. When a list is long, type the first few letters instead of scrolling.

Clearing everything

As soon as one filter is active, an × button appears in the toolbar, between "Advanced filter" and the "…" menu. It resets everything — including the "Assigned to" and "Task type" quick filters, which do not live in the panel.

On mobile

The funnel icon at the top right of the Terrain view opens the same set of filters, full screen.

The mobile filter screen.

  1. 1Date works differently from the other criteria: a switch turns it on, then you pick an operator and a date.
  2. 2The green badge counts the active criteria in that section.
  3. 3An active criterion is recognisable by its darker border and grey fill.
  4. 4The apply button only appears when there is something to apply.

Creation Date is the only section driven by a switch. Once it is on, the first field picks the operator — before or after — and the second the reference date. Tapping the date rolls out a wheel picker below the field.

For everything else, same logic as on the web: you compose first, then you apply. The sections are the same, plus a Structure section specific to mobile.

The filter stays on when you leave the screen. If the map looks empty when you come back, check the funnel — it is almost always a forgotten filter.

Two habits worth having

Prepping a work day. Filter by trail and by "Ready" status, then assign the result to the group that will be on site. The kanban and the map then show exactly the day's list.

Turning a filter into a project. Once a filter is applied on the web, the toolbar's "…" menu offers to create a project from those tasks. It is faster than picking them one by one.
