Switch places on the web
Work for more than one trail network? Jump from one to the next from the keyboard: ⌘K, a few letters of the name, Enter.
In Sentinel, a place is a trail network: a club, a park, an outdoor centre. Each place has its own trails, tasks and team. If you belong to several places, say because you maintain the trails of two clubs, you work in one place at a time and switch whenever you like.
Where: left navigation bar, under Place, the name of your place at the very top. Or ⌘K (Ctrl K on Windows) from any screen.
Open the places window
Click the name of your place at the top of the navigation bar, or press ⌘K. A window opens in the middle of the screen with the cursor already in the search field, so you can start typing right away.
The places window, open over the current screen.
- 1The open place, at the top of the navigation bar. The ⌘K key is a reminder of the shortcut.
- 2The search: type a few letters of the place name.
- 3Recent places, starting with the one you just left.
- 4The place you are in, marked Current.
- 5Keyboard keys: arrows to move, Enter to open.
The collapsed navigation bar keeps the same access: your place's logo, at the top, opens the same window.
Don't see the ⌘K key? You belong to a single place, so there is nothing to switch to. To join another place, an administrator of that place has to invite you.
Find a place
Each row shows the place's logo, name, city and activities. The search looks at the place name: type "moulin" to find Sentiers du Moulin.
If you belong to many places, the window opens on your Recent places, the last three you opened, followed by All places in alphabetical order. Recent places are kept in this browser and reset when you sign out.
Choose from the keyboard
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| ↑ ↓ | Move through the places |
| Enter | Open the highlighted place |
| Esc | Close without changing anything |
Clicking a row works too, and clicking outside the window closes it.
To go back and forth between two places, press ⌘K then Enter. The highlighted row is always the first place that isn't the one you're in, which is the place you came from.
What changes when you switch
Sentinel shows Switching place while it loads the new place's data, then takes you to its home screen, usually the dashboard.
- Your permissions follow the place. You can be an administrator in one place and a regular member in another: the navigation bar shows what your role allows in the open place.
- The data is the open place's: tasks, trails, members, conversations. Nothing is mixed between places.
- The notification badge takes the count of the new place. Notifications from your other places stay in the list without raising the badge (details).
- Sentinel remembers. Next time, the web app opens in the last place you chose.
