The place profile: name, logo, address and distance unit

Your organization's record in Sentinel: the name and logo your crew and the public see, the address that places your map and goes on your invoices, the billing email and the unit for every distance.

The place profile is your organization's identity card in Sentinel. It only takes a few fields: a name, a logo, an address, a phone number, an email and a distance unit. But those fields show up everywhere: on every member's phone, in the reports you send, in front of the public reporting a problem to you, and on your invoices.

You filled it in once when you created your workspace. The profile is where you complete it and keep it current: adding the logo you didn't have handy, correcting the address, changing the email that receives billing.

Where: left navigation bar, Account universe → the first entry, with your place's name and logo.

What the profile changes elsewhere

Each field has a specific effect outside the profile page:

FieldWhere it shows up
Name and logoEvery member's navigation bar on the web, the header of the Field map on mobile, a new member's invitation page, the list of networks where the public reports a problem to you, the header of the inspection report and of the trail map as PDFs
AddressWhere your map starts, and the billing address of your subscription
Admin emailThe billing customer of your subscription and the billing reminders
Distance unitEvery length on screen: trails, task segments, on the web and on mobile

A change reaches the whole crew without a reload. As soon as you save, the other members get the new name, the new logo and the new unit, in their browser and on their phone.

The logo is the small square to the left of the name, at the top of the page. The gold pencil at its bottom right opens an image picker: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF or HEIC, up to 10 MB.

The Edit profile photo window opens next. You drag and zoom the image to frame the logo in the circle, then Save. Sentinel stores it as a 200-pixel square.

The logo is saved right away, without going through the Save button at the bottom of the page: a message follows the upload, then confirms it. Until a logo is in place, Sentinel shows the place's initials.

Pick a square image, with the logo well centered and no fine text: it is shown very small in the navigation bar and in the header of the Field map.

Name, address and contact

The General tab holds four fields.

Name. The organization's, club's or park's name, not yours: it's what the whole crew sees, and it's what goes on reports and in front of the public.

Address. The field is already filled with the current address, and a summary with a green check confirms it: the address in bold, then the city, province, country and postal code. To change it, search for the new one in the field and pick it from the list of suggestions; the × clears the selected address. There is no free typing: the address has to really exist. If yours doesn't come up, common for a forest road or a rural address, pick the closest existing one.

The postal code only gets a field of its own if the chosen suggestion doesn't provide one. To fix the postal code alone, pick the address again.

What the address changes. When the address changes, Sentinel locates it and makes it your map's starting point: the web map opens centered on it, and on mobile the map goes back to it as long as the activity has no trails. Once there are trails, the map frames them instead. If the address can't be located, the save still goes through and the map keeps its previous starting point. The address also becomes the billing address of your subscription, which is used for tax.

Phone. Optional here.

Admin email. Required and checked: until it looks like an email address, Save stays greyed out. It is your subscription's billing address, and it receives billing reminders, along with the workspace owner. Prefer a generic club address to a personal one: it will outlast crew changes. This email has to be unique to your workspace: if the save doesn't go through, check that it isn't already another Sentinel workspace's.

Save or cancel

Cancel and Save sit at the bottom of the page, and cover both tabs.

  • Both stay greyed out until something changes.
  • Save stays greyed out while the name, an address picked from the list, the postal code or a valid email is missing.
  • After Save, the page stays open and both buttons grey out again.
  • Cancel brings everything back to the last save, address included.

If your workspace is read-only for lack of an active subscription, Save stays greyed out: see your subscription.

The distance unit

The Options tab holds a single setting, the Distance unit: Kilometers or Miles. It applies to the whole place and all its members, and to every length Sentinel shows: the trail list and trail details, a task segment's distance, picking a trail or a segment when creating a task, and on mobile, how far you are from a trail or a structure.

Like the other fields, it takes effect with Save.

UnitShort distanceLong distance
KilometersIn meters under 1 km: "500 m"One decimal: "5.2 km"
MilesTwo decimals under 0.1 mi: "0.05 mi"One decimal: "3.2 mi"

In miles, Sentinel never shows feet: a short distance keeps two decimals instead of dropping to "0.0 mi".

On mobile

The profile is edited on the web only. The phone has nothing to do: it gets the new name, the new logo and the distance unit as soon as you save. The logo shows in the place pill at the top of the Field map, and every distance follows the chosen unit.

Who can edit the profile

The profile falls under the place's Administration right, at Edit level: "Edit the place profile", along with its activities. It is meant for the owner or an administrator; see roles.

Without that right, the place's entry doesn't appear in the Account universe.
